Sea Queen

20170605_074154_001-1I’ve had a lot of stress going on lately. Mostly surrounding moving house. We decided months ago that it is time to go, and the last couple of weeks my anxiety level has increased more than it has in a long time. As we’ve looked for and found a place to live, having to deal with the other side, and dealing with all the practicalities, it’s like I lost my focus, and was bombarded with doubts and anxiety. So I asked the question “Are we on the right track?”. And drew Sea Queen.

Tranquil and blissful, the Sea Queen gazes upon her world with sweet love. She is intuitive and sensitive to the moods of her family and clan mates. A gentle mother to her kittens, she is tenderly devoted to them long after they reach maturity. Her dreamy nature and gentle kindness draw cats to her for friendship as well as romance, and once she has chosen her mate, she bonds with her whole heart. This queen’s love pours forth as freely as the fountains that adorn her realm.

The Cat’s Advice: You will find your greatest joy by keeping an open heart and listening to your dreams. Honor your intuition’s guidance and your own sensitive nature. Trust that the open affection you freely bestow on your loved ones is much appreciated.

This is who I want to be, who I believe I am at heart. To be tranquil and blissful, and full of love as each day unfolds, no matter what or where. And my children, all grown up, are my most precious treasure. I have reconnected with them over the last few years, especially as grandchildren have arrived to take another space in my heart. My sankalpa is to go through life in a relaxed way, with ease and peace, freely giving and receiving love.

This move is all about being open and following my dreams. Although I don’t have it “all figured out”, I do have intentions about what I want my life to look like. Since last year when I quit my full-time job and continued to study Ayurveda, love has continued to be what guides me and drives me.

As I find myself in the position of being the matriarch of my family, I have also found that mate that I can bond with whole-heartedly.  I have great friends, and look forward to finding more. Over all, my life is full of love, and as long as I hold fast to that, I am on the right track.

The Emperor

I hadn’t drawn a card for a while, so on a whim, without a question, I shuffled and drew The Emperor. I like the picture, as I have had orange cats, in a past life before I was saved from becoming a “crazy cat lady”. But that’s another story.

I like what it says here. This is good advice for anyone who is in any position of authority, whether it is as a parent, or in a job, or being a general or a king.

20170428_180445Our magnificent Emperor rules over the four cat clans with calm majesty and perspective. Maintaining the territory boundaries and providing for the future welfare of all cats are his chief concerns. The clans may battle and fall into hard times, but when the Emperor steps in, his authority is always accepted. His power comes from within, not from brutal conquest or dominating others into fawning submission. He knows who he is. The empire is vast and his responsibilities great, yet each of us feels truly seen when the Emperor’s wise gaze falls upon us. True leadership combines heart and mind for the benefit of all.

The Cat’s advice: Hold fast to the things you know are righteous and good. Use your power wisely for the benefit of those in your care. If you are the one in need of support, make sure those you ask for help are worthy of your trust. In either case, set firm boundaries. Don’t give away your own power.

Ace of Sea

20170417_213701I’ve been feeling a bit tired lately, sluggish, needing some encouragement and a fresh outlook on life. Wanting to simply be at peace with life as it unfolds. So when I drew the Ace of Sea , after asking simply “What do I need to know today,” I felt peace wash over me just like waves. Perhaps I am in need of a spring cleanse, and this card brought me just what I need to open the windows of my soul and bring in the fresh air.

“The Sea Clan signifies a place where your imagination and emotions may flow freely. The cats you meet here will welcome you and listen to your dreams. The way of the Sea Cats is the way of love.”

The Cat’s Advice:

It’s time to answer the call of your heart. Delights will come to you effortlessly now if you open yourself to receive them. Kindness, friendship, and love are all yours for the taking.

This is exactly the encouragement I need to refresh my soul and continue on the path of love.

Fire Tom

A lot of “stuff” has been swirling around in my head lately. Much has to do with upcoming transitions, not just my own, but things going on with some of my kids. I’m moving, some of them are moving and or are faced with major decisions. My meditation practice anchors me, yet sometimes it all seems like to much. This morning I got up much earlier than usual, journaled for a while, then decided to draw a card.

I searched for a question, and what finally came to me was “What do I need to know today?” I got Fire Tom.

wp-1490788971804.jpgThe epitome of boldness and grace, a Fire Tom sleekly glides through a field of candles, his swift passage like a hot wind among the flames. His eye never wavers from his goal. This tom is intensely focused when he wants to achieve something, and he can be a bit reckless in pursuit of his desires. He operates from a combination of luck and skill, with a dash of daring thrown in.

Well! I certainly relate to that! When I set out to do something, I am going to get it done! It will happen! I definitely have a bit of that courage and boldness, along with a bit of grace. And reckless? Well, I was just talking to my daughter about being  a risk-taker.

Since this card was reversed (upside down) when I drew it, the cat’s advice for me:

Get out of the hot zone and assess the situation before you take action. Your natural inclination to react swiftly will not serve you well now and may lead to being burned. Apply some rational thought and take advice from others if you need it.

That speaks to me like this: Just stop. You always want to fix everything for everyone. Think before you speak. It is in everyone’s best interest if you keep your mouth shut unless words of love are there to flow out. Keep looking to your inner guides and to the Divine for help.

Good Kitty

wp-1487211416560.jpgI went to a meditation retreat last week. I have to say, it was one of those experiences that I know I will look back on as a turning point in my life. Before I left, I decided to draw a card, asking about what to focus on during the retreat. I drew Good Kitty.

While I was at the retreat, one of the teachers drew a card for me, and got the Judgment card. I didn’t know it until I looked it up when I got home, but Good Kitty is the Judgment card in this deck! How cool is that!!

This is what the book says about this card:

Cats do not feel shame. Although we may misbehave or make unfortunate choices at times, it doesn’t affect our judgment of ourselves as essentially good. We learn from our mistakes and grow in wisdom throughout our lives so that our elder years are serene. The Cat Goddess has blessed us and told us we are worthy of praise, and how could it be otherwise, when we are made in her image? We are all good kitties. (I love this! I am definitely seeking wisdom and serenity in my elder years, hence the meditation.)

And The Cat’s Advice:

Judge yourself honestly and assess what you need to change in order to fulfill the greater purpose of your life. Look clearly at your errors and your failings, then forgive yourself and release any blame or shame. Accept the Cat Goddess’s love and shine it on yourself as well as others. Lick your paws clean and move forward with a lighter heart.

I decided to look up the meaning of the judgment card and found this:

The Judgement card calls for a period of reflection and self-evaluation. Through meditation or quiet reflection, you may come to a point of deep understanding about the common themes throughout your life and what you can do or change to avoid these situations in the future. Judgement tells you that you are close to reaching a significant stage in your own journey.

The Judgement card suggests that you have had a recent epiphany or an ‘awakening’ where you have come to a realization that you need to live your life in a different way and you need to be true to yourself and your needs. You have opened yourself up to a new possibility – to lead a fulfilling life that serves your higher needs and that offers inspiration and hope to others. You feel as though you have had a ‘calling’ in life, and you are getting much closer to the point where you need to take action. Something that was lying dormant within you, some unconscious knowledge or truth is finally being awakened and brought into the light.

With its theme of awakening to new life, the Judgement card suggests that you have reviewed and evaluated your past experiences and have learned from them. All the pieces of the puzzle of your life are finally coming together to form one, integrated picture of your life story. This integration has healed any deep wounds and you are now in a position to put the past behind you. Your memories no longer haunt you, and you are able to understand and value what has happened to you and what it has taught you about life. Now, you are ready to confront any unfinished business in your life, clear up any misunderstandings and view the future with peace and deep ‘knowingness’ in your heart.

Indeed! I stand on the brink.

Two of Sky

We are planning to move this summer. I will have lived in this apartment by the lake for four years, the last three with my beloved, Robert. I moved at a major turning point in my life, I’ve loved it, and in some ways I will miss it. But for a whole lot of reasons I won’t go into here, it is time to go.

I find myself obsessing about this. Where exactly, what kind of place, what is our budget, will this really work out? Stuff like that.

So I decided to ask the Cat for some help, and drew the Two of Sky.

wp-1485576993514.jpgThe presence of other cats is detected on the wind. Are they friend or foe? The Sky Cat lifts his head and focuses all his senses to discern more carefully. The next move he makes is determined by the information he gathers now. If he strays into a hostile cat’s territory, the consequences could be dangerous. Until he knows more, he stays right where he is.

Hmm. For a cat this is caution, and important. For humans, caution can become overwhelming fear, if we’re not careful. I think it is important to make friends with the fear, because it is definitely there for a reason.

The Cat’s advice:

Stay still and get your bearings before you take action. This may require patience, but it will be worth it. Dashing off to pursue vague inclinations will not lead to anything. Gather more information, pay attention to details, and trust your instincts to tell you the safe and successful course of action.

I get a lot of guidance about letting things flow, and not trying to figure it all out, which is very important! Often, I find that when I relax, things work themselves out.  This little caution from the cat, to get my bearings, be patient, and trust my instincts as information is gathered, is just what I needed to hear to find my balance.

Thanks for reading! I’d love to hear about how you’ve received guidance – from cats or other animals, or any way it comes to you!

Four of Sky

This morning I woke up feeling at peace with the world. I had a simple plan for the day – spend it with my 6 month old twin grandsons. Sounds great, and it was, but it is also a lot of work. It is a drive of over an hour across Houston through unpredictable traffic, and it was raining. The babies are wonderful, but there are two of them, and much of my purpose is to give their parents relief. They both work from home, so when I show up, it is Sassy time!

wp-1484838270958.jpgSo it is lovely and exhausting. I asked the Cat if she had any advice for me, and drew the Four of Sky.

I like this image of a cat curled up, resting, in a field of lavender. This cat is seeking rest from their everyday life, tuning out the world and its troubles, curling up in the flowers and seeking peaceful dreams. The advice here is that perhaps I need to find a quiet place to withdraw from the noise and demands of everyday life, even for a little while. Taking time in solitude is important, and recentering periodically is essential.

So, I ask, how does that fit for today? I’m going to the babies!

The answer: Because you are giving so much, not only to these children but also to your other grandchild, and to others in your life, it is important that you find time for personal refreshment. Plan time away by yourself, to do what you want, or to do nothing. Find your “bed of lavender” and visit it regularly!
